District Office News

Dear District 80 Families,

Saturday April 26th is designated Kindness Day in Norridge and Harwood Heights.  There are many activities happening around the villages to show kindness towards others.  Please check out the Kindness Flyers linked on the right side of this page.

Norridge District 80 is hosting two events to celebrate community Kindness Day.  Please join us at Leigh School from 10:00am to 12:00pm for the following activities.  All ages are welcome.

  • Join members of the PTA in making family gratitude journals.  When we share what you are grateful for it encourages connection and empathy.  It brings everyone closer together through a position conversation.  When you regularly focus on the “good stuff” it helps to shift your mindset towards the position, especially during tough times.
  • Join members of Gratitude Generation to make bags for our local First Responders.  This is a wonderful family opportunity to show appreciation for the work and dedication of the people who protect and serve our community.

We are honored to host these activities at Leigh School on Saturday, April 26 from 10:00am to 12:00pm.  Simple acts of kindness ripple out in a community.  You never know how much a small gesture might mean to someone else.  These events will help our students to value service, sacrifice and kindness.

Be Kind,

Michele Guzik

Giles School News

from the Principal:

Giles Families,

As a reminder, we have no school on Friday, April 18th and Monday, April 21st.  I hope everyone enjoys their extended 4-day weekend!

As a reminder to our 6th grade families, dental forms are due to Nurse Nelly ASAP.  The Illinois State Board of Education deadline is May 15th.  If you have not submitted your dental forms yet, please do not delay.  If you have any questions, please reach out to Nurse Nelly at ncozzone@norridge80.net.

District assessments for iReady and MAP will begin next week.  Testing will take the next 3-weeks to complete.  The data learned from the assessments will help us prepare your child's schedule for next school year.

Congratulations to our Giles Band Program on another successful solo competition.  The band students participated in a competition this past Saturday, April 12th at Giles School.  The band students did an amazing job!  Thank you to Mr. Bucaro for preparing our students for this competition.

Enjoy your weekend!

Bob Biedke

from the Assistant Principal:

Students are completing their last district assessments for the 2024-2025 school year.

i-Ready is designed to complement what is being taught in the classroom. Your student’s teacher will have information from the Diagnostic that shows where some extra review would be beneficial, which will help the teacher provide the best possible support. Your student will also work on online lessons that bolster the areas of greatest need. Your student’s teacher can see which lessons have been completed and offer help any time your student needs extra support.

To help prepare your student for the i-Ready Diagnostic, encourage them to:

  1. Get a good night’s sleep and eat breakfast the day of the assessment.
  2. Try their best on each question and try not to rush.
  3. Use paper and a pencil to show work for math questions.
  4. Be respectful of other students who take longer to finish.
  5. Come to school with a fully charged Chromebook and headphones.

Mrs. Gulo
